“Our new location at the Bimini Sands Beach Club is ideal for a dive operation – the international airport is just a few minutes’ drive away, and it’s a short boat ride to Bimini’s best dive sites, most of which lie to the south,” Neal Watson said, citing as examples the wreck of the Sapona, Victory Reef and Tuna Alley, among other sites. “Bimini Sands’ condos are perfect for our divers’ needs. The resort’s new Infinity Pool is about to open, and its great restaurant, sushi bar and Mackey’s Sand Bar watering hole will be just steps from the door of our new dive shop.”
“Bimini Sands is already known for our world-class fishing waters and the wide variety of eco-adventures we offer. Adding a full-service scuba operation was the logical next step – and Neal Watson, an old Bahamas hand who holds several Guinness World Records for diving, is the best possible choice to direct it,” said Bimini Sands Resort & Marina CEO Frank Cooney. “As a family-operated company, we know the value of having a family on-site who can provide continuity and consistently excellent customer service for our guests. We’re delighted to welcome the Watson family to Bimini Sands.”
If you go to South Bimini in the winter month, you have to take a stroll on the Bimini Nature Trail. The Trail is lined with informative signs, so anyone who walks it will come out with better understanding of Bimini’s natural environment.
The Bimini story says in the early 16th century had the reputation throughout the indigenous peoples of the Caribbean of being the home of the legendary Fountain of Youth –a spring with the power to roll backs time for anyone who drinks its water. The Spanish conquistador Ponce de Leon never found his Fountain of Youth. In 2000, Frank Conney decided that Bimini’s Fountain of Youth could use a little T.L.C. He and his staff rebuilt the top of the well, cut back the brush and added a short nature trail to the site. If you visit, draw some water from the well and wash your face in it (you never know…).
In other hand, you have to visit the Sharklab. It’s a tour in this world-renowned research facility for all things shark-related. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see the lemon shark pens. Also you can swim with wild dolphin. You can take a dolphin excursion to find a pod and dive in.
Deep sea fishing, of course, is what put Bimini on the map. Dolphin, marlin, tuna, sailfish, grouper, barracuda, and more – they’re all here. Bimini has long been famous for its excellent bonefishing and a number of world records have been set over the years.
The businessman, Frank J. Cooney is the president and CEO of Bimini Sands Resort & Marina on South Bimini in the Bahamas. He has operated the resort since 1995.
